Here I sit. With the Sunday Night football game on writing this to you.
This past week was pretty uneventful in the life of Brandon, but next week should prove pretty eventful!
This week saw a calculus test, that could have gone better than it did. Linear Algebra, saw some concepts that were from out in left field, but seemingly connect to everything! Physics had two days off, while piano had us playing When the Saints. Something that is becoming more and more obvious to me as I continue this quarter is that all of the concepts I am learning are completely and utterly connected. This should make it a little easier to learn them. The problem with them all being connected is learning in three different styles of teaching, some of which do end up contradicting something else I have already learned, so it is really about seeing through the fog, and sorting out what is true and untrue in what I am being told.
Thursday was Veteran’s day as you all know so a much needed midweek break was given! So how did I spend it? I went for a run, for starters. Then I watched the London Premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1! I must say that I am super excited about this! I watched all of the stars and other people wishing I could just be there to be at the premiere! The movie is going to be so exciting!
Reading, I definitely haven’t had much of a chance to read recently. My schedule just has so much homework being added and with finals coming soon I probably won’t get to finish another book this quarter, sad, but such is the life of a college student.
Running, I will be running a 5k in just under a week next Saturday! I have also recently found out that the race is a Bloomsday Second Seed Qualifier! This is not out of reach for me at the moment and I will surely be trying next week! But if I do not reach this goal I will not be upset as Michael Thompson and I will be running the St. Paddy’s 5 Miler here in Spokane to try and qualify! I would have to run an 18:40 5k next week to qualify, and this is not out of reach for me, last year I ran a 19:10 at this race, with what I assume was less running (my running logs don’t say) and my speed is finally coming back within the last couple of weeks after my marathon. The weather will be the biggest factor next week however. Last year I remember icy conditions even with the best efforts of the race coordinators to salt the course, it was just too cold. So far conditions for next weeks race do not look promising with two days of sub 40 degree runs of 33 and 37 degrees and a run in the snow yesterday. There is no more snow on the ground however, weather reports show snow in the forecast and temperatures not rising much from what they have been. It seems I could be running my first race in the snow in a week! In two weeks I have a half marathon in hopefully warmer weather!
There were other things about which I was going to make mention, however I have forgotten. Thanksgiving break is coming soon and I will be home late on Tuesday evening. It is a packed break because it is so short and I have decided to run the half marathon in Seattle!
Marathon plans, for the future are coming together. As mentioned last week I will be starting a full scale quest to conquer the 50 states. There is no set dates for this to happen mainly because it will all be dependent on when I can travel and what not. However It seems I will be able to conquer California and Idaho next year!
Oh next week will be such a good email look forward to it! A race report, Harry Potter details (do not worry I won’t give anything away), and I am signing up for classes this coming Tuesday!
Anyways I will be off for now!

Late Night Report and Meeting a New Friend

In Uncategorized on November 8, 2010 at 5:17 am

Hello again all!
In keeping with the most random schedule of sending these emails to you this year I am here at 9 o clock (or is it 10?) sending this to you!

Daylight Savings is here! Hope you are all on the new time schedule, because my watch still isn’t there and as I type this I will surely forget to set it back one hour! Oh well!

Anyways, this week I had a physics test that went okay, didn’t do as well as I would have hoped for, but the next one will surely be better! The linear algebra test that I had last week came back as an 81% and I was excited about that one! This next week has a Calculus test and continuing in all of my other classes! Piano continues it’s one day a week stride towards teaching the tone deaf person that I am music. For those that have never heard me sing, or watched me sing and try to keep a rhythm, well let’s leave it as “not so pretty” and move on!

Work this past week saw me get a couple of extra hours in helping with the book fair that the Eastern Reading Club puts on quarterly I think or at least biyearly. It was fun, but again work isn’t really as exciting as it was my Freshmen year when I got to hang out with kids in that after school program! Oh well!

I have been asked recently about my roommate situation by a few people and whether or not it is working out and if I like it better than the dorms. Well the dorms are entirely different, I liked the dorms in the sense that I always knew that I could go get dinner whenever and not have to actually cook it, which now I have to cook. This is again one of the areas of life in which I am not so good at, I am getting better (hopefully)! Otherwise the roommates are working out really well! We are all alike on some level and fairly easy going people so we all get along well! Some of you are I am sure glad that I have people around nowadays rather than not having anyone around hardly at like I was last year!

Reading, has been on a down slope as far as getting through books and actually having the time to read. I am currently working my way through Personal Records (which I mentioned a couple of weeks back now) on the Kindle and so far it is an okay book, The chapters definitely bounce from topic to topic so I am not sure how well I will like it. Supposedly a book about running, but the story just hasn’t gotten there fully, and now I am reading a bit about horses, I will get back to you on this! Otherwise my book count is going down, although I may soon be delving into the shelves at my work to pick up a couple of authors that have caught my eye while helping across the hall in the Library Work Study Office!

Running continues to go well, no new races have been entered yet, although I am toying with the idea of signing up for two marathons for next year! I will be runnign either the Windemere Marathon (starts in Idaho and runs to Spokane) ro the CdA Marathon a couple weeks afterwords with a couple of friends. Then I am thinking about running the San Francisco Marathon on July 31st, but am not completely sure about it, as I would like someone to go with me, so we shall see how things work out! Registration for San Fran is the 1st of December! Otherwise the upcoming races that I have are the Spokane Jingle Bell Run in two weeks and in three weeks I will be running the Seattle Half Marathon with Duard King!
Other running related stories is that I got the chance to meet Cami Ostman, the author of Second Wind. The book that I recently finished a few weeks ago! She was really nice! And a blast to talk to! She came to the local book shop where I buy many of my hard copy books when I am at school. I chatted with her a bit before and after she spoke at Aunties, and also met her husband Bill! Both really wonderful people!

Anyways, I think that that is all for this week! Stay tuned the next couple weeks as the quarter is now through halfway and I will be coming home soon a couple of times! Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner! Take care all!

Halloween Weekend

In Uncategorized on November 1, 2010 at 3:40 am

This past week wasn’t really an eventful week as I look back on it, I have a hard time thinking of anything that really happened… Super eventful obviously!
Anyways school continues to go well! I am moving through Calc, linear algebra, physics and piano!
I had a linear algebra test this past Friday that I think went fairly well for me! Physics has a test this coming Wednesday that should also go fairly well. Piano continues to be a fun and entertaining class, and I really do enjoy it! Calculus didn’t have any tests this past week, and I am pretty sure that there isn’t one this coming week… it should come the following week… anyways!
Wow, short so far… work continues to be work.. nothing too exciting happening in it!
Running I have not been able to get out as much as I would like to, but I have gotten out the past few days for a run. Friday was a little longer than I have been going typically on Fridays and the past two days were about 4-5 miles. On the topic of running, those emails that you have been receiving for the Seattle Jingle Bell run, today is the last day to sign up for the $25 fee, otherwise it will now be $30 through November! I will be running in Spokane as well as Seattle on the 20th of November.
As we now close the month of November, you will probably be hearing a lot about Harry Potter from me in the next few weeks because on the 19th of November the first part of the seventh book will be released in it’s movie adaptation! I am super excited!
Reading, I finished Cami Ostman’s book Second Wind! It was really good! I really want to run another marathon because of it, and have started thinking about running a marathon on every continent. Although I believe that I would keep this as a secondary goal to something even bigger. I would of course look for opportunities to travel and run marathons on each of the seven continents and if I were to get to all 6 Antarctica would be a must do and would be reached, but I think I will start with trying to do a Marathon in every state! I really want to run the San Fransisco Marathon this coming July, but we shall see about that one.
A special shoutout this week to the Tomahawks who completed their season yesterday! Sadly none of our team made it to next weekend to compete at State, however I am so proud of everyone this past season and am so happy to have once again been able to help coach them this year!
That is all that is coming to mind as I write this t you, as I said not a lot has happened this week! Onto next week!
